Sweden to reduce VAT on food from 12% to 6%
Further to our post from November 2025 regarding draft bill concerning the reduction of VAT rate on food, the Swedish parliament has voted now in favour of the government’s proposal to temporarily reduce the VAT rate on food from 12% to 6%.
The reduced VAT rate applies to food, with exceptions for, among other things, tap water and certain alcoholic beverages.
The amendments will apply temporarily between 1 April 2026 and 31 December 2027.
