Denmark – Proposal to abolish VAT rate on books

The Danish government plans to include in its 2026 budget bill a proposal to abolish the 25% VAT on books that is one of the highest in the world in order to fight the growing “reading crisis”. This change together with increased funding for connecting public libraries and school is part of a wider strategy to promote reading and provide easier access to literature.
